Wassup people, its been a really long while since I last updated anything, I know. Well, I'm back! And I am going to talk about my new addiction slash desire.
See last Wednesday I was out with four of my good friends. We went to Sunway Pyramid. Supposed it was a normal outing. Went ice skating, fell here and there. Had godmouthchewy Sushi and just simply wandering all around the huge building doing nothing. Until Lisa and I, decided to go to Asian Avenue. Now, Asian Avenue is the only hot place for people like me self. The things that can be found there are quite low prices and its sort of a mix and match of rich and expensive looking stuffs if you're good at choosing. So even though I've been there (Asian Avenue) for about 4 times, I had never realized this small section on the left of the entrance. Its a shop, a CAMERA shop. Or to be more specific, a LOMOGRAPHY shop. Seriously! I had never seen that sort of thing in there before. And there's even a tattoo shop in front of it. Crazy.
So, Lisa she is a freak photographer. She basically knows all sorts of camera (NOT DIGITAL ONES). She has this vintage camera, as she mentioned before, a LSR camera, just before DSLR. Yeah I know, *camera language*. So by seeing her using such camera, she has more knowledge in vintage cameras but roundly film cameras. I personally am not a fan of digital cameras, because somehow although it gets the job done, I am never satisfied with the image, the outcome. Sometimes I find it to be too sharp, or too bright or just looks to clear and perfect. I don't really like that. Cause somehow I feel like when so, the speciality of the thing I've captured, looks like just a scenery or a plain picture. Like the specialness disappears and what cause it is the camera (digital) itself.
So, Lisa wants to buy a flash for her camera. Ask one of the workers and one was very excited when seeing the type of camera Lisa was holding. So you know at that moment this is not just "another" photo shop, the workers, they are truly into cameras and photography. So, I was a little affectionate by the immediate bond they had.
I looked at the masterpiece wall, as I call it. Just dozens of pictures, taped on the wall and some are made as those hang crafts and I was stunned. Its beautiful. The outcome of film photography truly has it own uniqueness that can't be found or produced by digital cameras.
Then, I saw this different looking pictures. Different as in the width and unlike normal pictures, this one has sprocket holes on them. Its sort of a panorama picture, but in film. So I asked one of the workers what camera that was used to take these pictures, and she took me to the camera shelf and on top of it is an odd looking camera, called the Sprocket Rockets. And honestly, at that moment I think I ultimately fell in love with it. I had no idea a film camera could do such thing. There was even (one of the pictures) with long exposures and double or triple exposures. Normally these type of pictures, we'd edit them using photoshop or something, but no. This is real and original. It is caused by the camera itself. So I became obsessed right away.
Lisa as expected knows a lot about the camera. She tells me all that is to know about it. And I did a little bit of research on it as well. The price for the camera is RM299 which is I think very affordable and it uses a normal 35mm film which is easy to find. Its a common film. And that's it, at that moment I know I have to buy it. Lomography cameras are different because you get exposures and light leaks, all those crazy colour filters, and yet the picture still looks amazing! So, I'm so gonna have one for myself!
Reaching to the best part!:
Today is Thursday night, in a couple of hours its going to be 12 which will make it Friday. After Friday comes Saturday right? Then that's it! SUNDAY. I told my mum and dad of my intention in buying ze camera and they're okay with *sort of*. So, I asked them to take me there (Sunway) this Sunday to buy the camera. In shaa Allah, with Allah's will, everything will go as planned. Here's hoping.
TO YOU!
INTERESTED IN PHOTOGRAPHY, TRY GETTING YOURSELF BACK TO THE OLD DAYS AND USE FILM CAMERAS. BETTER YET TRY ANY LOMO CAMERAS. THEY ARE ALL GREAT AND UNIQUE IN THEIR OWN WAYS. BETTER YET, GET YOURSELF A SPROCKET ROCKET AND MAYBE WE COULD TRADE PICTURES AND STUFFS?
